Obama Administration Launches Immigration Reform Awareness Campaign

|

In a concentrated effort to bolster President Obama’s efforts on immigration reform, the White House and a number of federal agencies have launched a media campaign in hopes of dispelling fact from fiction. Entitled “Executive Action on Immigration: Know the Facts,” the awareness campaign hopes to educate immigration hopefuls on the various eligibility requirements needed for such programs as DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and DAPA (Deferred Action for Parental Accountability), while dissuading those individuals who are currently attempting, or plan to enter the United States illegally.

As a joint venture between the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the campaign is focused on families immigrating from Mexico and Central America. Key regional markets that will be targeted include Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Washington, D.C., as well as international venues. Additionally the CBP have launched a website catered specifically to demographics found in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico City. Both the State Department and Homeland Security have stated that, at its core, the media blitz is designed to help families make educated decisions about their immigration goals.

If you or a family member are currently working through the immigration process, or have questions on how President Obama’s reforms could impact your potential citizenship, it is important to get the facts from a qualified immigration attorney. While the aforementioned media campaign will provide a great deal of information, only an immigration attorney will be able to explain the long term impacts to your particular situation.
